Shults undefeated in showmanship

MEEKER I Madi Shults, a member of the White River 4-H Livestock Club, returned from the 2012 Colorado State Fair. Accomplishing two of the three goals she set at the beginning of this 4-H season.
She remained undefeated in beef showmanship in 2012. She won the two jackpot showmanship divisions that she competed in earlier this spring. She was the Champion Intermediate Market beef Showman at the Rio Blanco County Fair and she was chosen as the 2012 Colorado State Champion Intermediate Market Beef showman last Thursday night at the 140th annual Colorado State Fair and was awarded a custom buckle sponsored by Vickland Show Cattle.
She competed against 17 other Colorado 4-H members. The showmanship official, Crisha Custis, commented to the crowd that the intermediate showmen were the most competitive and the highest quality set of showmen she had evaluated in quite some time. That’s quite a compliment coming from someone who is hired to judge beef shows nationwide.
In the market division on Friday, Madi and Kodiak fell short of qualifying for the Junior Livestock Sale. But, in spite of missing that goal which was a tough row to hoe this year, as the steer show was the deepest it’s been in many years, Madi had plenty to look forward to on Saturday. She got to take it easy and wait for the next award ceremony with a steak dinner and dancin’ later on. Her sister reported that she skipped the dancin’ to watch ESPN.
Before the grand champion market hog drive, Madi was honored as the highest ranked junior 4-H livestock judge in Colorado. This is her third time qualifying for the Colorado Junior All State Livestock Judging team and the first time she earned the top spot. She was awarded a handsome, custom engraved belt buckle that was sponsored by the Colorado State 4-H Livestock Coaches Association. In the end, she missed the sale but left with two brand new buckles.
