Meeker

Home of: Viney Bowman

MEEKER | Viney Bowman of Meeker is this week’s “home of” honoree. She married her late husband Vernon Bowman June 7, 1964. They were married “almost 48 years.” Vern passed away April 4, 2012.
“We moved to Meeker 43 years ago for Vern’s job. He ran the Meeker Co-op which is where Meeker General Mercantile is now,” Viney explained.
Vern worked for the co-op for several years and was hired as a supervisor by Colowyo Coal Mine in the mid-70s. He retired from Colowyo 18 years ago.
Viney worked for an insurance company for a short time and was a house painter before she started working for Rio Blanco County Abstract. Viney has worked for the abstract company for 23 years.
“I started as a receptionist at the front desk and now am an escrow officer there. I have also taught Word Perfect, Graphics and QuickBooks classes for CNCC over the years,” Viney stated.
Vern and Viney have two children. Their son Scott Bowman lives in Meeker. His wife Julie remained in Limon with their son Tyler for Tyler to finish his senior year at Limon High School. Scott and Julie’s daughter Holly is a college sophomore in Colorado Springs. Vern and Viney’s daughter Becky Ridings and husband Buddy of Meeker have three daughters: Kaylee will graduate from the Denver School of Nursing in December; Megan will graduate Spring 2013 from the University of Wyoming with an elementary education degree; and Aly is a Meeker High School junior.
“I like to work on the computer, enjoy doing embroidery and am going to try to take up some quilting. I like to do things with my family and friends and I love to go to sports and watch my Aly play ball,” Viney said.
“I love the friendliness of Meeker. It’s a great community to live in. The people here care about you,” Viney added.
