Rangely resident Teresa Nash watches her documents become recycling at Monday’s “Shred It!” event, sponsored by the Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce and Grand Junction’s Colorado Document Security. During the three-hour event, approximately 20 individuals brought legal, tax and personal documents to be destroyed in a large-capacity truck-mounted shredder. In exchange, participants were asked to bring donations for the Rio Blanco BOCES Backpack Program. Chamber director Brooke Lohse said that around $75 in cash and a large box of food were donated for the program, which provides breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for approximately 50 Rio Blanco children each weekend. Lohse said that the chamber hopes to hold additional Shred It! events in the future to increase participation and awareness of document security.
