Meeker, Rangely set egg hunts

Hundreds of children took part in this past Easter egg hunt in Rangely, and children in Rangely and Meeker will be taking part in Easter egg hunts in their respective towns this weekend.
Hundreds of children took part in this past Easter egg hunt in Rangely, and children in Rangely and Meeker will be taking part in Easter egg hunts in their respective towns this weekend.
RBC I Meeker and Rangely will host Easter egg hunts open to local children on Saturday, and with good weather forecast, turnout is expected to be quite large.
Meeker’s egg hunt will be held at Barone Middle School and begin at 10 a.m., according to Cindy Welle, a member of the Meeker Lions Club, which sponsors the event in its entirety.
phRGeasterhunt3“If you are not here a few minutes before 10 a.m., you will likely miss the egg hunt,” she said. “We sound the siren and everyone is off. It doesn’t last very long.
Welle said the hunt is for children from toddler size to age 10, and the participants are broken into age groups and hunt in different areas of the school property.
“We have had probably a couple hundred kids in the past years,” Welle said. “We pretty well cover the lawns at the school and everyone has a good time.
Welle said the Lions will be using plastic eggs, which will be stuffed with “money, candy and toys.” That, she said, makes the kids “pretty happy if they get something good.”
The Easter Bunny as well as a fire truck will be on hand for the children and adults to enjoy, and it will be the siren on the fire truck that will be used to signal the beginning of the egg hunt.
“This is a totally free event for the children of Meeker and the surrounding area, and we invite everyone to stop in and enjoy the event and the children,” she said. “The Meeker Lions Club is taking care of all the arrangements as a service to the community, and we are proud to do things for the community.”
The Rangely Elks Club will sponsor the Easter egg hunt and other events at Elks Park.
Rangely events will begin with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. All town and area residents are invited to take part.
All Easter egg hunters are urged to be at Elks Park by 9:45 a.m. The actual egg hunt is open to those from toddler to age 12 with the age groups of toddler to 3 years, 4 through 6 years, 7 through 9 years and 10 through 12 years.
Organizer and Elks member Norm Hall Jr. said the starting times will be different for the different age groups. The groups will run one at a time until all of those taking part are done with the hunt, he said.
