4H retreat held: “What’s your H?”

More than 140 4-H members from Rio Blanco, Moffat, Routt, Jackson, Grand, Eagle and Garfield counties participated in the annual District 11 and 12 retreat, including 18 from Rio Blanco County, to discover which “H” in the 4-H pledge they most relate to.

RBC I More than 140 4-H members from the seven northwest counties of Rio Blanco, Moffat, Routt, Jackson, Grand, Eagle and Garfield counties took part in the annual District 11 and 12 retreat to discover which “H” they relate to most in the 4-H pledge.
This year Rio Blanco County brought 18 members to district retreat: Kolbi Franklin, Kirsten Brown, Matilda Zagar-Brown, Jamie Moyer, Antoinette Dorris, Katye Allred, Phalon Osoborn, Raelynn Norman, Sam and Kacie Lapp, James Amick, Zane Cordry, Elijah Deming, Kyler and Bradi Bland, Ty Dunham, Anthony Martin and Jake Smith. Special thanks to our wonderful chaperones: Tisha Dunham, Deserai Lapp and Meredith Deming.
The 4-H’ers enjoyed a fun opening program with pizza and shenanigans by a talented magician who dabbled in a little comedy, followed by 4-H officer candidate speeches.
The next day was packed full of workshops, fun, good food, games and more. District retreat participants began the morning with fun team-building games and then were off to workshops that highlighted each of the 4-H motto’s “H’s” as part of a statewide 4-H movement to excite members about their involvement in 4-H. In “What’s Your H?” 4-H’ers worked with Dr. Jeff Goodwin to make mini-campaign videos about which “H” means the most to them, then they moved on to “Taste of 4-H,” where members got to experience a variety of 4-H projects from livestock judging, vet science and cake decorating. Cake decorating was instructed by RBC’s own Suzan Pelloni and leathercraft was taught by our local favorite, Bob Klenda. The third workshop was “club officer workshop” presented by the CSU Collegiate 4-H Officer Team who worked with members about the roles of each club office, how to make club meetings run more efficiently, how to best contribute to their 4-H club and how to gain the most out of the 4-H experience.
4-H’ers thoroughly enjoyed the Glenwood Recreation Center amenities, group games, officer elections, delicious food, a great dance and lasting friendships at the retreat. Members got to think a little more deeply about the 4-H pledge and what it means to them. Exploring with our heads, sharing with our hearts, working with our hands and living in good health. This is what 4-H is all about.
