Old Timer’s dinner, dance June 8

RBC I The Rio Blanco County Pioneers Association is gearing up for its 101st annual Old Timer’s Reunion Dinner and Dance on June 8.
The committee has put together an afternoon of entertainment around the theme “Stories of the White River Valley.”
Happy hour starts at 3 p.m. and dinner begins at 5 p.m., but official ceremonies begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Freeman E. Fairfield Center in Meeker with an invocation and opening ceremony, followed by the welcoming of guests by the co-presidents. Next will be the 101 years of Pioneer Old Timer’s Reunion History Media Presentation, then a celebration of life remembering family and friends who have passed on.
Co-presidents Kay and Bob Bivens, co-vice presidents Sandra Bradfield and Bob Amick, secretary Haley Kracht, treasurer Connie Theos and strategic chair Mary Ann Wilber have been working very hard to “bring a most memorable and exciting program,” Kay Bivens said.
The officers said they were reminded of the song lyrics, “I will pass this way but once; if there’s any good that I can do, let me do it now, for I’ll never pass this way again.”
There will also be a recognition of the All Class Reunion followed by the association’s business meeting, followed by the dance, which will feature music from all periods.
In cooperation with the Capturing Our Culture Committee, the group will invite oral history family group discussions and interviews on video.
The officers would like to invite the “new” Old Timers, as “the future is now in creating today’s Rio Blanco County history that future generations will want to know about, just as we seek to know the stories of our ancestors of the past century,” Bivens said.
The Centennial All Class Reunion is an effort to get all classes from the Rio Blanco County high schools in Rangely and Meeker to come share an evening of stories and friendship.
This year there will be group photographs and exhibits in the lobby and adjacent rooms of the Fairfield Center.
The agenda offers an opportunity to gather with friends and celebrate the time together.
All persons are invited who have grown up in Rio Blanco County or lived in the county for 30 or more years, and their guests are welcome to participate.
