Obituary: Nellie Emma Jane Stewart

Nellie Stewart
Nellie Stewart
Nellie Emma Jane Randall was born Sept. 16, 1922, to Glen and Ella Randall in Okarche, Okla., the second of 11 children.
Nellie spent her childhood between Oklahoma and Colorado, attending school in both states. Following her sophomore year, she returned with her parents to Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Stanley. They were married on Nov. 30, 1940, in Guthrie, Okla.
The couple then moved to Colorado, where they started a family. Nellie gave birth to nine children: Albert Glen, Stanley Verne, Reba Kathleen, Donald Thomas, Gerald Robert, Theo Randall, Frank Allen, William Ray and Ella Jean.
The family spent the early years following work from Oklahoma to Wyoming before settling in Meeker and calling it home. Stanley passed away on Oct. 3, 1969, in Meeker.
Nellie was an avid sports fan and supported her children and grandchildren in their high school athletics. She was also a baseball lover as she would sit and watch every game, win or lose, that the Rockies played year after year. She would sit and cuss the Broncos just like the rest of us, but there may not have been a bigger fan.
Nellie worked as a cook at the hospital for several years while her children were in school, but her real love was bookkeeping. She worked for Ed Jirak at the drug store and later spent several years as a bookkeeper for A. Oldland and Co.
Nellie went to be in the arms of the Lord on June 14, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers and three sisters and her two eldest sons. She is survived by: three sisters, two daughters, five sons, 27 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all of us.
Judy Ball, in “Grieving the Loss of Your Parent,” states; We may have lived enough years to be an adult, but we will always be a child in relation to our parents. Even if we find ourselves “parenting our parents” before their deaths, it is the parent of our youth and childhood that we bury.
