Vern Rose, 69, of Rangely, Colo., passed away unexpectedly at the Rangley District Hospital on July 20, 2013. He was born in Telluride, Colo., on Sept. 11, 1943, to Troy J. and Ione Rose.
Vern attended school in Telluride and Egnar, Colo. He married Irene Koppenhafer on June 12, 1965. Together they moved to Rangely from Monticello, Utah, in 1970.
Vern worked in the oilfield industry until his retirement in 2010.
Vern loved his family. He followed his children and grandchildren all over the state to watch their sporting events. He enjoyed rock hunting, camping and four-wheeling.
Vern and Irene’s home was always open to anyone. They were willing to take in a stray kid anytime. Rusty and Brad were two of the many that crashed at their house when they needed a hug, a meal or to be yelled at by Vern.
Vern loved kids — his or yours; it didn’t matter as he loved them all.
He is survived: by his wife, Irene Rose of Rangely; sons; Mike Neptune of Carly, Nevada, TeeJay (Staci) Rose of Olathe, Colo., Claude (Kayla) Rose of Rangely, Dusti (Kathy) Rose of Rangely and Koby (Rachael) Rose of Grand Junction, Colo.; a brother, Harold (Sandra) Rose of Chapel Hill, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews and grandchildren: Kyra Neptune, Troy Rose, Trent Rose, Nicole (Chris Prince) Justus, Logan Justus, Lane Rose, McKenzie Rose, Delaney Rose, Devon Rose and Blade Rose; and great-grandchildren Kayden and Caleb.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Joyce Woodward and Marlene Rabideau.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25 at 1 p.m. at the Rangely High School Auditorium with a viewing one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Rangely City Cemetery under the care and direction of the Blackburn Mortuary.
