Ficken, Hogan, Slagle lead Lady Panthers on basketball court

RANGELY I Winter sports are under way, and the Rangely girls’ basketball team is ready to begin a season of hard work and constant improvement.
Second-year head coach Quinton Kent said of the upcoming season, “We expect our team to improve every practice and every game. Whatever happens beyond that is out of our control.”
Kent is well aware of the very competitive league, adding, “We expect Meeker, Paonia, Hotchkiss and Soroco to be tough.”
Coach Kent goes into his season with the leadership of seniors Aimee Hogan, Chelsea Ficken and Tessa Slagle. The trio will lead the 15 participants as they begin their season in the annual Cowboy Shootout in Meeker.
The Lady Panthers will face an always-tough Grand Valley team for their first contest of the season.
In Kent’s first season as a head coach, the Panthers finished fourth in the league and won an impressive first round game in the regional tournament last year.
Kent’s assistants offer an outstanding combination of experience and young excitement as Kurt Douglas offers his 30-plus years of knowledge to complement the youth and enthusiasm of Kent and Roz Thacker, a former Rangely standout athlete.
As the new season begins, the Panthers are ready for a successful year and have already proven they are willing to work hard as they are entering their second week of practice.
