Meeker

Meeker Locals: September 4, 2008

\MEEKER — Today is “National Newspaper Carrier’s Day.” On this date in 1833, Barney Flaherty became the first newsboy. Sept. 4 is also the anniversary of the introduction of the Edsel. Anybody remember the Edsel from way back in 1957? Check out these sites devoted to the ill-fated vehicle: www.edsel.com or www.edsel.-net.
For those who heard the news about the fire-fighting plane that crashed last Wednesday northwest of Meeker, we are happy to hear that the pilot was not seriously injured.
Looking for a quality used car? A Wisconsin man is selling his 1991 Chevrolet Silverado on eBay. The truck has 1 million miles on the original engine. Minimum bid? $30,000. The auction ended with no bidders. Wonder if it still has that new car smell?
This week we would like to wish “many happy returns” to Tonya Morris, Sept. 4; Kimberly Murray, Sept. 5; Tahler Gotschal, Kirsten Brown and Deloy Cook, Sept. 6; Kim Dodds, Julie Cook, Sept. 7; Nancy Richardson, Sue Kirkham, Sam Palmer, Alex R. and Scott Smith, Cam Tegeder, Sept. 8; Stacey Hudelson, Beth Hollowed, Sept. 9; Wade Bradfield, Becka Dar-row, Jared Doll, and Joe Holeyfield, Sept. 10.
We miss-ed wishing happy birthday to Renae Blazon last week, Sept. 2. Sorry, Renae! Happy belated birthday!
Celebrating anniversaries this week are Travis and Katie Day, Sept. 4; Todd and Tonya Morris, Sept. 5; Joe and Donna Collins, Sept. 5; Gary and Betty Lou Moyer, Sept. 6; Fred and Sharon Day, Sept. 6; Sam and Helen Stranathan, Sept. 7; Todd and Linnea O’Nan, Sept. 9.
Are you or your family members missing from this list? Is our information obsolete? Please send us your family’s special dates — anniversaries, birthdays, etc. — so we can celebrate with you! E-mail [email protected], or mail items to P.O. Box 720, Meeker, Colo., 81641.
