100 years ago
n Powell Park Personals: School has begun in our newly-painted school house with a good attendance. Miss Wear is the teacher.
n Harvesting weather was interrupted Tuesday night by a liberal downpour of rain.
n On returning from Routt County, Commissioner Kilduff and County Clerk Scott met with a serious mishap. Arriving at a point near the town corral, the horses took fright at a piece of an old stove laying near the roadway. The rig was overturned and Mr. Kilduff thrown out and knocked insensible. Mr. Scott had a bone broken in his foot.
n Property owners having defective sidewalks (and there are several) are to be ordered by the marshal to put the same in proper repair as by ordinance provided.

n Meeker residents were glad to see two heavy rains after the driest summer in many years. So far (in 1958) there had been no frost in town.
n Phil Sheridan of Meeker wed Joanie Hughes of St. Louis, Mo.
n Spectators were urged to “use the stadium” at high school football games.
n KTVT Channel 4 program schedule for Saturday, Sept. 13: “Howdy Doody, Ruff and Reddy, Blondie, Major League Baseball, Detective’s Diary, True Story, People Are Funny, and Brains and Brawn.”

n Officials from Cathedral Bluffs Shale Oil Co. re-examined plans to build a main camp capable of housing 1,000 shale workers due to opposition from county commissioners.
n Five homeowners in Sanderson Hills filed $50,000 claims against the Town of Meeker, claiming the building inspector “didn’t do his job” when the homes were built.
n Eric and Tammy North welcomed new baby Michael Allen, born at Pioneers Hospital Sept. 7, 1983.
n Mike Tate and Steve Allen returned from a successful caribou hunt in Alaska.
n NAPA Auto Parts celebrated its first anniversary. Steve Overton, Manager.

n John Beattie, high school principal, was appointed superintendent of schools at Exeter, Mo.
n Miss Margaret Gustafson and W.J. Finnell were married.
n Prv. Charles White was completing basic combat training at Camp Carson.
n Miss Shirley Covalt and Russell Goddard were married.

n Miss Katherine Tipps, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Bazzel Tipps, was the new member of the Rangely Times staff, writing social and other local items and a column of Dinosaur news.
n “Inflation hasn’t ruined everything. A dime can still be used as a screwdriver.”
n The Pine Canyon Co. in the Rangely field had employed five women to clean out oil tanks: Harlene Gilbow, Jean Fairchilds, Rowena Pennell, Deseri Allen and Sandy LeBleu.
n On sale at Montgomery Ward, Hayes Agency, an AM/FM stereo 8-track component system for $99.95.

n High temperature on Sept. 11, 1988, was 75 degrees Fahreinheit, with a low temperature of 44 degrees.
