BLM still seeks input on county fuel reduction plan

MEEKER I Fire management officials with the Bureau of Land Management are now seeking public feedback on a proposed fuel reduction project in Rio Blanco and Garfield counties.
Public scoping began April 2 and the BLM will accept feedback through April 16 regarding this proposed project.
During scoping, the BLM is looking for feedback from the public regarding issues, impacts and potential alternatives that should be addressed in the Environmental Assessment. This is the first opportunity for the public to be involved in this EA, and the BLM plans for the preliminary EA to be available for public review and comment later this spring.

The natural event of fire often improves wildlife habitat and reduces fuel loads. Vegetative fuel loads pose a safety risk to life and property when unplanned fires occur. Fire management officials with the Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit may use prescribed fire and mechanical equipment for this project. Some disturbed areas may be seeded when deemed necessary.
Public comments regarding this proposal will be most helpful to the BLM if received by April 16. Written comments will be accepted and can be mailed or emailed.
