NEWS NOTES: January 13, 2022

Historical Society quarterly meeting

MEEKER | The Rio Blanco County Historical Society will hold its January meeting on Sunday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Heritage Culture Center (517 Park). We’ll be discussing preservation of historic photographs and documents, renewing memberships and voting on board officers. Chili will be provided. Bring a chili topping, side dish or dessert to share. Call (970) 878-9982 with any questions.

River committee meeting Jan. 19

RBC | The Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) for the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation Districts will be meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Weiss Conference Room on the Rangely CNCC Campus. The meeting will run from 6-8 p.m. A virtual link or call-in number will be provided upon request. Please email [email protected] to request a link for the virtual meeting. The PAC will hear presentations from Peter Fleming on In-Stream Flows, Mario Sullivan and Kari Brennan on the results from the Diversion and Riparian Assessments, and vote on the priorities for the Phase III Scope of Work.

River Alliance to discuss mosquito management

MEEKER | The next meeting of the White River Alliance will be held Thursday, Jan. 20 at the VFW in Meeker at 6 p.m. The topic will be healthy mosquito management with guest speaker Jesse Schroeder, pest management director for Moffat County. 

Free community dinner Jan. 20

MEEKER | Free community dinner at the V.F.W., 290 Fourth St., on Jan. 20 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

Empty Bowls fundraiser Jan. 27

MEEKER | On Thursday, Jan. 27 between 4-6 p.m. (before the Rangely/Meeker basketball games) buy a handmade bowl from the MHS art department with soup, salad and breadstick prepared by the MHS FCCLA students for $20. All proceeds go to local non-profit organizations. Please contact Ben Quinn at [email protected] or call 970-878-9070 ext. 337 for more information. 

Meeker book club

MEEKER | The book club will be reading “Animal Dreams” by Barbara Kingsolver. We will discuss the book on Monday, February 14 at 1 p.m. All are welcome to join in the fun.

Wagon Wheel OHV Club

MEEKER | The next meeting of the Wagon Wheel OHV Club will be March 3 at 7 p.m. at Kilowatt Korner. Board elections will be held in April. Please step up to keep the club alive and get your membership forms in so your vote counts. Credit card payment is an option but checks are preferred. New membership forms are required annually.
