This year marks the 20th year that the Meeker High School woodshop students have partnered with Samuelson’s True Value, acted as elves and made toys for Santa to give the kindergarten classes at Meeker Elementary School. This program was started by Coley Turner, and continued by Brett Steinacher, and is now in the hands of Zach Clatterbaugh. According to Clatterbaugh, “Toys for Tots has been a great way for the high school students to give back to the elementary students, and many of the high school students who now make the toys remember receiving them when they were in kindergarten.”
Over the years some of the toys manufactured include wooden cars, trains, trucks, animals, stick horses, and scooters. You name it, the high school students have built it. It has been a great way for students to learn about the manufacturing process and mass production in addition to working on building their own class projects. Meeker High School hopes to continue this tradition for a long time as there have been many students and families touched during the Christmas season.
