CNCC rodeo team sending several to nationals

RANGELY I The 2013-2014 Rocky Mountain Region regular season has come to a close for the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans Rodeo Team.
“Coach Paige and I couldn’t be more proud of the effort and results of the entire team this year,” head coach Jed Moore said.
The last rodeo of the year was held in Grand Junction, hosted by the Colorado Mesa University Rodeo Team.
As everything shook out, there was plenty of dramatic flair in several events as it all came down to the final round on Saturday night. When the dust settled and all the points had been tallied, the CNCC Rodeo Team will be sending six delegates in seven events to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyo., from June 15-21.
Brody Adams finished first in both rounds and the average in the tie-down roping and he also took third in the first go with fourth in the average in team roping with teammate Clay Crozier.
Adams and Crozier finished the season in second place to qualify for the CNFR as Rocky Mountain Region Reserve Champions. Bareback rider Jesse Anderson finally got a win this season after many second-place finishes. Anderson will also be headed to the CNFR as the Rocky Mountain Region reserve champion bareback rider.
Bull rider Brice Osborne struggled in the final rodeo drawing towards the weaker end of the bull power, finishing fifth on the weekend and slipping from second to third in the year-end standings. Osborne will also qualify to the CNFR for a second time as CNCC’s top bull rider.
Freshman team roper Jeremiah Fat will be a member of our CNFR Men’s Team based on his early season successes in the heeling.
The cowgirls of the CNCC Rodeo Team set several team records this year also.
One half of the Hibb twins, Courtney, qualified for the CNFR by filling the third-place spot for the year in the break-away roping. She is the first cowgirl in team history to qualify. The other half of the twins, Carly, had an outstanding weekend at Grand Junction, qualifying for the short round in all three of her events. Unfortunately, Carly wasn’t in the top three at the end of the season to earn any berths to Casper.
The men’s and women’s teams set season points records for the year.
The men’s team finished second for the year behind annual powerhouse College of Southern Idaho, earning a team berth to the CNFR, allowing CNCC to fill six events with members of the team.
The Lady Spartans finished the year in fifth place in the region, a very solid performance by a young team of talented ladies.
Currently the CNCC men’s team is ranked No. 8 in the national standings, with several of our athletes in the top 20 in each of their events.
Final Regional Standings for our CNCC Rodeo Team: Men’s All Around: Brody Adams in third; Women’s All Around: Karlee Worthen in seventh; Bareback Riding: Jesse Anderson in second, Dax Koskie in seventh and Brice Osborne in eighth; Bull Riding: Brice Osborne in third; Team Roping: Adams/Crozier in second, Worthen/Fat in sixth, Duzik/Vondette in 21st, Grimshaw and Bushaw in 29th and 32nd, respectively.
Tie-Down Roping: Brody Adams in fourth, Clay Crozier in 12th and Wade Grimshaw in 13th; Steer Wrestling: Wade Grimshaw in sixth; Barrel Racing: Carly Hibbs in 19th; Breakaway Roping: Courtney Hibbs in third, Karlee Worthen in eighth, Carly Hibbs in 20th and Taylor Duzik 31st; Goat Tying: Carly Hibbs in sixth, Teasha Moody in 14th and Courtney Hibbs in 20th.
