Today (Thursday, Feb. 17) is a holiday, one we need maybe more than ever. What holiday? It’s Random Acts of Kindness Day, part of Random Acts of Kindness Week. We could all do with some random acts of kindness these days.
Sometimes people are cruel, thoughtless, rude, entitled, judgmental, hateful and downright mean. Sometimes you and I are some or all of those things. Sometimes it’s on purpose; sometimes — most of the time — it’s not.
It’s easy to sit back and say, “yeah, where’s MY random act of kindness?” But that won’t accomplish anything beyond souring the mood. Better, perhaps, to figure out where you can perform a Random Act of Kindness for someone else. Not to gain anything in return, not to manipulate or guilt-trip, just a random act of kindness for no reason. As Ghandi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
Happy Random Acts of Kindness Day. May many kindnesses come your way.
