•  Victor Dikeman discovered the lair of a mountain rat in one of the Hugus warehouses a few days ago. Vick thought the occurrence was extraordinary, but when we told him that we had known them to carry off grindstones over in Park County, he said he was sure his rat wasn’t fully grown.

•  The Grades of School District No.1 are planning on Field Day exercises which will occur April 29th if weather permits. All grade pupils of the county are invited to participate. 

•  Meeker people were greatly pleased when the Denver papers came in last Saturday. They showed that Joyce Store of Meeker Grade School won second place in the state spelling contest, being beaten by only one point for first honor.

•  A first place honor was received again this year by a Meeker High School student, Larry Moyer, who competed in state FBLA (Future Business leaders of America).

• Claire M Sullivan’s painting of horses running free appeared in LaRevue Moderne which is an arts magazine printed in Paris, France and distributed worldwide.

• Meeker’s Tom Kilduff will participate in a tour of Vietnam from April 24 to May 8. The tour is sponsored by former Marine Corps officers of Kilduff’s second battalion, Fourth marines, Ninth Amphibious Brigade. The special tour commemorates the 29th anniversary of the battle of Dai Do.

• Governor John A. Love in recognition of Colorado Artist Registry and Survey has proclaimed April Colorado Artist Month and urges all Colorado artists to facilitate the survey being conducted to appreciate the great contributions Colorado artists make to our communities. 

• President James H. Bos of Rangely college attended the North Central Association’s 77th Annual meeting in Chicago. Rangely College is in the first year of a three-year cycle working towards accreditation with association.

• Bicycle repair is now available in Rangely since Sagebrush Sports opened April 1. The goal of Sagebrush is providing quality services and accessories for local bikers as well as water and back-country skiers. 

• Parkview Elementary students experienced a surge in safety awareness on Friday, April 11. The PTSO sponsored Spring Safety Rally was held in the Parkview gym, with students grades preschool through 5th invited to attend.
