Two months ago local resident Carissa Smith heard friends discuss how disappointing it was for young students to not be able to afford to buy books at the Book Fair held at the Meeker Elementary School. She took it upon herself to figure out a way to earn money. In addition to a donation jar located at Chippers, Smith contacted the Meeker Lions Club and made a personal presentation asking for a donation. This particular subject is one of the many Lions Club International interests worldwide. The Meeker Lions Club decided to make a donation of $1,250 to the school for use in assisting needy students. There may also be additional funding in the future depending on the outcome of this event. The Book Fair was held on April 21 and local Meeker Lions Club members were on hand to read to students.
