Panthers finish last regular season meet

RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers finished up their last regular season track meets this week They had two meets: Thursday in Olathe and Saturday at Grand Valley. Both meets were smaller but they had some great competition and most athletes had new personal best and have ended the season well. The Panthers will be taking 16 athletes to the state championship in Lakewood, Colorado, this coming weekend.

At the Olathe meet, Kyrah Phelps secured her place at state with a discus throw of 104-7, placing second. She also threw a 31-6.5 for shot put. At Grand Valley she threw the discus (97-11.5) and shot (31-10) for first place. Rylee Allred was only able to throw at Olathe with throws of (99-5) discus and (26-5) for shot. In Olathe Brook Filfred threw discus (76-6) and in Grand Valley (72-11) and in shot (26-3.5). Mackenzie Manchester (28-5) in shot at Olathe and (29-2) for shot and (71-2.5) for discus in Grand Valley. Manchester also ran the hurdles (21.81).

The boy throwers were Kenyon Cochrane, Joseph Adams and Ashton Bennett. Cochrane took first in discus at Olathe (140-9) and third in shot (40-2.5). In Grand Valley he took second (139-2.5) in discus and sixth in shot (40-1.75). Adams threw shot (31-5.5) and ran the 3,200 (13:26.76) in Olathe. While in Grand Valley he threw the discus (82-1.5) and shot (31-7). Bennett was able to get a throw of 31-3.5 in shot and then in Grand Valley he got a 31-2.25 and in discus a 61-0.75.

For the girls jump Mary Scoggins took first in triple jump (34-2) in Olathe and second in Grand Valley in long jump (16-1.75). Annika Cantrell took first in high jump in Grand Valley with (4-10.5) and second in Olathe (4-9.5). Kastyn Dembowski and Miah Wren took second in pole vault in Grand Valley with a 7-3. Dembowski, a high jumper, cleared (4-5.5) in Olathe. Wren triple jumped (28-11). Emma Smith triple jumped (29-8.5) in Olathe and then (27-9) in Grand Valley. Ryan Mergelman had a personal record of (13-5.2) in long jump in Olathe.

Fisher Winder led the boys in triple jump with 36-3.5 and long jump (17-2.5) in Olathe. Anthony Dorris long jumped 16-11 and triple 33-1 in Olathe and then in Grand Valley (17-6.5) long and (30-9.75) in triple. Adyan Christian long jumped (15-02) in Olathe and triple jumped (31-9.5) in Grand Valley. Robert Murray long jumped in both meets (11-7.7) and (14-6). Clay Allred triple jumped (35-7) in Olathe and then pole vaulted in Grand Valley (7-7). Justin Allred tripled (29-2) in Olathe but didn’t compete in Grand Valley. Timothy Scoggins cleared (5-5.5) in Olathe then (5-8.5) in Grand Valley in high jump.

In Olathe track events Smith (14.45) and Ward (17.69) for the 100-meter dash. In the 200-meter dash Smith (30.28), Mergelman (30.95) Cantrell (31.89) and Ward (37.79). Scoggins ran the 800-meter (2:29.34) with Macy Morgan (3:36.91). Morgan also ran the 3,200 (17:25.19). Hayley Burr ran the 100 hurdles (18.45).

The girls were also busy putting together some relay teams. In the 4×200 Burr, Mergelman, Wren and Ashlynn Ducey ran a 1:53.87. They then ran the 4×100 with Burr, Ducey, Wren and M. Scoggins for a new school record of 52.90. The same team and in the same order broke the school record in the 4×400 with a time of 4:17.62 by almost three seconds.

For the boys in Olathe Murray ran the 100 (15.04). Christian ran the 200 (26.49). C Allred ran the 400 (59.24). Colton Noel (2:25.79) and Justin Allred (2:31..40) ran the 800. James Talbot ran the 3,200 (11:05.72).

The boys also put together a couple of relay teams. The 4×200 was Christian, Winder, Dorris and T. Scoggins for a time of 1:40.74. The 4×800 was T. Scoggins, Colton Noel, Clay Allred and James Talbot with a time of 9:06.98.

On the track in Grand Valley Rangely had three girls in the 100 dash: Smith (14.71) Cantrell (15.79) and Ward (17.59). Ducey was the lone girl in the 200 dash (27.72). Another three in the 400 dash: M. Scoggins (1:03.23) Wren (1:08.35) and Mergelman (1:11.62). Morgan in the 1,600 (7:36.25). Burr in the 100 hurdles (17.32) and 300 hurdles (50.44). Manchester ran the 100 hurdles (21.81). They put together two 4×200 relays: the A team was Burr, Ducey, Wren and Scoggins for a 1:50.72. The B team was Mergelman, Morgan, Smith and Dembowski (1:57.83).

In Grand Valley the boys had Murray in the 100 (15.22) and 200 (32.21). Christian also ran the 200 (26.23). T. Scoggins ran the 400 dash (59.23) while Noel (2:19.74) and Talbot (2:21.7) ran the 800 dash. Talbot (4:58.24) and Noel (5:19.65) ran the 1,600. The boys put together a 4×200: Christian, Winder, Dorris and T. Scoggins (1:43.52) and the 4×400: Christian, Noel, Dorris and T. Scoggins (4:04.52).

The following athletes will be competing in the state meet this Thursday-Saturday at the Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood, Colorado. Seniors: Mary Scoggins, 800 run, long jump, triple jump, and 4×400; Hayley Burr, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 4×400 and sprint medley relay. Timothy Scoggins 4×800 and high jump. Colton Noel 4×800. Juniors: Kyrah Phelps discus, Rylee Allred discus and Kenyon Cochrane discus. Sophomores: Annika Cantrell high jump, Kastyn Dembowski high jump and Ryann Mergelman sprint medley relay, 4×100 and 4×200. Freshman: Miah Wren sprint medley relay, 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400; Ashley Ducey sprint medley relay, 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400; Clay Allred 4×800.
