Ushering in a new decade for RBC Fair

RBC | Fair books are out.  The county fair will be in full swing in just a few weeks.  This year is the One-oh-one, the 101st annual county fair.  We’re offering some great new changes in the following areas:

Technology is gaining a foothold.  Find QR codes for rules, enter all exhibits on FairEntry.com, be sure to check Facebook (Rio Blanco County Fair) for helpful postings and updates, and read the 4-H monthly newsletter and weekly Rolling Rock Facebook posts by CSU.

Indoor Open classes will be entered through FairEntry.com, but hard copy entry tags will be used this year.  Pick these up at the extension office or at check-in on Wednesday, August 3rd, or Thursday, August 4th.

The coloring contest and the coloring design contest are open to all ages, with cash prizes going to first place winners. Design the winning coloring contest for next year – Theme: Best Days of Summer– and win $100.00 and bragging rights.

Pantry Stores, Baked Goods, Misc and Farm Foods, and Quilts are their own departments this year.  Awards and prizes will be given in each division, so enter often!

PeeWee showmanship, including Beef, will be offered across all species.  So here’s a chance to get your daring and confident pre-4-Hers to enter the show ring with real animals.

The Horse Show has been reorganized and offers something for every exhibitor.  In addition, 4-H classes will be run concurrently with open classes.  This offers excellent competition along with outstanding 4-H performances.

Swine showmanship and market classes will follow back-to-back, and dairy goat and market goat shows will do the same.

Because of an abundance of indoor Photography entries, it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED for exhibitors to enter their submissions on Wednesday evening, August 3rd.  This allows the Photography superintendent and helpers to arrange exhibits, showcasing each one.

The Fair is looking for all FFA projects, no matter how large, to be entered in the Hobbies and Crafts department.  A record turnout of projects this year will encourage a potentially separate area for FFA in the future.  In addition, any item that was made in school this year can be entered  in Youth (8-14) or High School (15-18).

Professionals have their own age division.  This age division is for you if you’ve sold some of your creations!  And there are classes for the Municipal/Business Challenge.  The decorative flower pots can be entered, or leave the pots and take 4 cut flowers to the Fair.

Ever popular events continuing are the Summer Rodeo Series, the Sheep Lead contest, Lil’ Buckaroo Rodeo, the Rabbit Chase for 2-5 year olds, and the Pet Rock and Rolling Rock contests which are open to all.

The philosophy of the Fair is:  Bring it.  We’ll find a place for it.  Creative, innovative, astounding entries await your enjoyment at the County Fair. July 29-August 6, 2022.  Pick up your fair book at various locations in Meeker and Rangely or at the CSU Extension offices at the Meeker fairgrounds or the Rangely annex.
