RANGELY I Rangely Junior High School athletes traveled to Baggs, Wyo., for their last meet of the season on Friday, and with sun shining and wind blowing, the Panthers brought home several medals, set new school records and set personal bests.
Makenzie Cochrane set a new school record with a throw in the discus of 70-10.5 and placed third in the event. She also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 22-2.25.
For the boys: Austin Ficken placed first in the shot put with a throw of 32-8.25 and fifth in the discus with a throw of 93-1.5. Ficken, along with Kobe Broome, Patrick Scoggins and Brennan Noyes took fourth place in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 54.92.
Patrick Scoggins set a new school record and took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.18. He also took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 35-11 and won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.80.
Brennan Noyes also established a new school record in the high jump by clearing 5-8, earning a first-place finish and he also earned sixth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.80.
This meet was run a little different from what the athletes are used to in that there was only one division, and the seventh graders found themselves competing against the eighth graders.
The seventh graders did not place as well as they would have liked, but they all had fine performances and had fun.
Coach Scoggins was very pleased with the accomplishments of all the athletes for this meet as nearly every athlete set a personal best at the meet.
Personal bests equal cookies on Monday for the athletes, so she spent Sunday making dozens of chocolate chip cookies.
