Annual quilt show supports women’s education programs

Take a break from the dogs and hot summer days to enjoy the hard work and artistic treasures at the 2022 quilt show.

This year’s event is Sept. 9, 12-5:30 p.m. and Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Fairfield Center, 200 Main St., in Meeker. Your small contribution to enter of $4 is used to support scholarships and grants for women seeking advanced education.

The quilt show is sponsored annually by the local P.E.O. Chapter BA, a philanthropic organization that supports the education of women at the local, state, and international level.

The show brings back memories of grandmas, aunts, mothers and similar heritage quilts. Plus, contemporary designs of unique colors are the gifts of our current quilters. The quality of stitching and the variety of designs is just stunning.

Every year, a different set of quilts are presented, so you know some very devoted quilters have been hard at work making these awesome treasures. Collectors of quilts and folks who have inherited quilts also loan their treasures for this show. It’s a combination of newly minted and aged works sometimes passed down in families over many years.

The quilts are on display only, no sales. But you can enter the drawing for the Opportunity Drawing of one quilt that is made especially for this event every year. The 2022 Opportunity Drawing quilt is on early display at the Hugus Building and advance tickets can be purchased at Rocky Mountain Hair Benders located at 640 Main St. or at the show for $2 each or six for $10.

All funds raised go toward philanthropic contributions made to young women to further their education. Several scholarships are presented every year to support educational endeavors ranging from first year college students to long term studies.

Homemade bakery items are also on sale, so don’t overlook the opportunity to purchase some of Meeker’s finest locally baked goods.

The Meeker BA P.E.O. Chapter was established in 1919 and continues a long tradition of sisterhood, community support, and educational contributions. P.E.O. is a state, national, and international organization that supports women and funds philanthropic pursuits.

Bring your family and friends for a fun and educational local event that supports our young women’s educational commitments.
