BLM seeks local comment regarding county horse fence

MEEKER I The Bureau of Land Management released Tuesday a preliminary environmental assessment for construction of four segments of fence in association with the Herd Management Area boundary in Rio Blanco County.
The fence will serve to contain wild horses within the Piceance-East Douglas HMA. The 137-mile perimeter of the HMA does not currently restrict horses to the area designated for wild horse management. Horses leaving the HMA are at risk of vehicle collisions and pose concerns to natural resources on both public and private land.
The public provided input during scoping and the BLM is now giving the public 30 days to provide feedback on the EA.

Public comments regarding this proposal will be most helpful to the BLM if received by June 12. Written comments can be mailed to the White River Field Office, 220 E. Market Street, Meeker, Colo. 81641. Comments can also be submitted via email to [email protected].
