Meeker board receives $150K water grant, funds to be used for Circle Park

Meeker trustees approved a supplemental budget ordinance to account for unanticipated revenue that came from a $150,000 Colorado Water Conservancy Board grant. The funds will be added to budgeted funding for the Circle Park Phase 2 project.

The ordinance, according to Town Administrator Mandi Etheridge, also considers a motion to transfer funds from the systems development fund to the recycling budget, a decision made by the board earlier this year to increase support for the recycling program.

The board also heard a request from the Eastern Rio Blanco 911 Board to approve a surcharge increase for 911 services. The charge, scheduled to go into effect in February, will increase from $1.80 per cell phone line to $1.97 per line and is approved by the Public Utilities Commission. County commissioners will also need to approve the increase. Surcharge funds are used for 911 services and equipment.

Etheridge said the town has been awarded the $220,000 Office of Just Transition grant. Those funds will be used to leverage additional grant fund requests from GOCO in February for a larger grant.

The Meeker Police Department is down one officer with the resignation of Officer Ahearn, who is leaving the state, and has begun advertising to fill the position.

In other business, trustees:

  • Appointed Jim Hanks to the planning commission
  • Received an application for the planning commission from Amanda Back
  • Approved the 2023 holiday schedule for town staff, and a scheduling change for the board’s January 2023 meetings from the first and third Tuesday to the second and fourth Tuesday, in January 2023 only.
