Dwelling houses in Meeker are scarcer than they have ever been.
Howl upon howl has gone up for years past because our game laws were not enforced. Now that the game wardens are endeavoring to do their duty the howls go up because they did so. In other words, they are eternally damned if then don’t and eternally damned if they do. Who wouldn’t be a game warden?

When last Saturday evening Ralph Tagert came to town with one of the largest black bear ever killed in these parts, he gained the distinction of being a real ‘bar’ hunter. The tale which goes with the killing of the bear shows that Ralph finding where the bear was wintering crawled right in the cave after him. From all accounts he came just about as near being “bear meat” as the bear being his. At all events we take off our hats to Ralph as a good hunter.
The festive house-fly is still in evidence hereabouts But he will soon have to hunt winter quarters.

Speaking of mistakes… the type lice crept into our composing room last Wednesday night and moved a couple of lines of type around. By morning they had McGovern with 1536 county votes and Nixon trailing with 414. You can see what a dilemma this put the Republicans in while maybe the Democrats thought they had a good thing going. Anyway, President Nixon did have the larger count over McGovern. Those pesky lice!

The idea didn’t really go anywhere at the time, and since then the fire department and the town have been squabbling, mostly over parking issues. Eventually the fire board decided to build a new fire house somewhere. But on Nov. 18, a series of events made it likely that the town hall will indeed find a new home — at the Fairfield Center.
