James Lyttle was last week removed as game warden for this district. It is said that Mr. Lyttle was fired for the reason that he did not make wholesale arrests of residents of this section for alleged violations of the game law.
The roads are getting bare of snow in a few places where the sun has a good chance, but on the whole sleighing continues to be fine.

What a great farce is the prohibition law. The rich can get all the British and Canadian whisky and choice wines they want, and the “common herd” are compelled to use vile “bootleg” stuff. And, of course, the hordes of prohibition officials and ‘bootleggers’ are all getting wealthy, and the masses of the fool people pay the bills.
If all the people of the world thought as much of each other as a boy and his dog think of each other, all would be well.
About four inches of new snow ushered in the New Year Monday morning. Since that date the days have been sunshiny and the nights near the zero mark — sometimes below.

The expanding United States energy crisis has finally reached Meeker. This fuel shortage takes the form of no natural gas to heat the high school and bus garage.

The Rio Blanco County Sheriff is investigating the deaths of a prominent area couple and their young granddaughter. The bodies of Harvey Townsley, 60, Marge Townsley, 58, and their granddaughter Michelle Townsley, 9, were found Monday morning in their home about six miles south of Buford. The deaths were attributed to a double homicide and a suicide.
On Jan. 6, Kare Wilkes, the Greeley Gas public relations representative, told citizens at the Meeker town council meeting that the price increase was imposed after the state PUC approved the rate hike. She also said that the state regulators told Greeley Gas that they could boost rates immediately without warning customers.

The first baby born at Rangely Hospital in 1973 was Shane Eric Barkman. Parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Barkman. Time of birth was 3:50 p.m. on Jan. 1. Attending physician was Dr. William Rosene.
At the last regular meeting of the Town Council final details were discussed in implementing the City Sales Tax which became effective Jan. 1, 2973. Rangely joins Meeker as well as other communities in the area in using a sales tax for additional revenue.

Henry L Solano, US attorney for the District of Colorado, Ralph Morgenwick, Regional Director of US Fish and Wildlife Service’s Mountain Prairie Region, and John Mumma, Director of Colorado’s Division of Wildlife, announced today a joint federal and state investigation into unlawful commercialization of big game in Colorado has resulted in guilty pleas from five hunters and the recent indictment of three others for federal conspiracy and wildlife-related charges.
Andy Shaffer and Mike Stephens of the Rangely Rural Fire Protection District extinguished a blaze that started in the back of a Rangely Trash Service truck on Dec. 29. A witness noticed flames after a dumpster emptied into the truck in the alley, and the driver immediately dumped the burning trash onto the street and the fire was contained quickly.
