The Rangely High School track and field team is beginning to hit their stride. The season is now well underway. The team traveled to Gypsum for the Eagle Valley Invitational this week, where they saw many personal bests, a meet record and a school record set.

In the girls 100 meter, freshman Aubrianna Tapia led the way with a 14.60 with Emma Smith right on her heels in 14.62. Paytin Kendall ran 15.06 and Aubrey Kenney 16.06. Ashlynn Ducey finished fifth in the 200 meter when she crossed the line in 28.45. Addison Scott finished in 30.14, Tylee Fielder 31.09, Ryann Mergelman 32.64, and Paytin Kendall 33.40. Mergelman, Fielder, and Kendall all ran the 400m as well, running times of 1:09.01, 1:11,44, and 1:14.34, respectively.
The girls also put together a 4×100 meter relay that finished in 58.57, a 4×200 meter relay which placed fourth in 1:56.44, and an SMR that finished third in 1:59.51.
Annika Cantrell and Kastyn Dembowski competed in the high jump, clearing 4-05 and 4-03, respectively. Emma Smith leaped 13-10 in the long jump, along with Addison Scott’s 13-07, Dembowski 12-11, Kaelyn Geer 11-10, and Laurie Ward 9-05. Smith was also the lady Panther’s top triple jumper with her distance of 29-01. Geer jumped 28-04. Miah Wren and Dembowski each competed in the pole vault as well, clearing 6-03 and 5-09, respectively.
Ten lady Panthers competed in the discus and four of them claimed spots in the final. Kyrah Phelps led the way with her third place throw of 102-00, with Rylee Allred’s 96-08 taking fifth. Aubrianna Tapia threw 89-03, MacKenzie Manchester 85-01, Annika Cantrell 77-06, Chloe Noel 69-04, Alivia Green 47-04, Miley Francis 43-04, and Laurie Ward 41-06. Phelps also threw 31-01 in the shot put for another third place, Manchester placed fourth with her 30-07, Allred threw 28-04, Tapia 26-03, Noel 24-00, Francis 19-09, and Green 18-06.
On the boys side, Kenyon Cochrane won the discus with a throw of 144-05 in which he set a new meet record. Chase Cochrane threw 103-06, Justin Allred 93-04, Jaren Blankenship 66-00, and Logan Benson 27-08. In the shot put, Kenyon Cochrane snagged third place with his throw of 40-10.5, Chase Cochrane threw 33-04, Blankenship 25-02, and Benson 13-10.
Anthony Dorris jumped 18-01 in the long jump with Fisher Winder just two inches back in 17-11. Logan Peterson jumped 15-08.5, Aydan Christian 15-03.5, Robert Murray 14-09, Justin Allred also 14-09, and Logan Benson 8-01. In the triple jump, Winder jumped 36-07, Dorris 33-08, Christian 32-07, Peterson 32-06. Clay Allred braved the pole vault in which he cleared 7-03.



James Talbot had a big day in the 1600m, breaking the school record and running the 2A state leading time of 4:34.85 to take home a win. Andrew Dorris was third in the race with a time of 4:54.84. Gage Nielsen also ran the 1600m in 6:53.48. Talbot and Nielsen doubled back for the 3200m, running 10:27.07 and 15:32.84, respectively.
Logan Peterson was the boys top short sprinter, running 12.97 in the 100 meter with Robert Murray right behind him in 13.02. Logan Benson ran 16.48 and Jaren Blankenship 16.75. Peterson ran 27.96 in the 200 meter, Murray 28.83, Caiden French 32.12.
Justin Allred led the way in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00.34, followed by Joseph Valdez in 1:03.74, and French’s 1:06.38. Clay Allred ran a solid 2:19.32 in the 800 meter, Valdez went 2:32.65, French 2:46.18, and Matthew Morgan 3:21.80.
The boys team also fielded a 4×200 meter relay that ran 1:47.41, a 4×400 meter that finished in 3:53.98, and a 4x800m that placed 8:59.72.
The Panthers will be headed to Glenwood Springs this weekend for their next meet.distance of 29-03 and Kaelyn Geer lept 28-07.
The Panthers will next head to Gypsum, Colorado, for the Eagle Valley Invitational on April 8.
