Cowboy golf season underway

MEEKER | The Cowboy Golf team has been hard at it competing in over four tournaments this season so far.

Head coach Willy Theos has one senior on the team this year, Spencer Gates. Gates has been consistently in the top two for the first three tournaments of the year. Each tournament Theos takes five boys with the top four counting towards the team score. During the tournament the team is split and paired with golfers from other schools.

The team opened the season at the Grand Junction Tiger Invitational at Bookcliff, a course they did not see last year, where Montey Franklin and Gates both led with 98’s, Alex Garcia shot a 99, and Drew Drake a 105.

Three days later they hit the links again for the Bruin Invitational where Gates was top golfer with a score of 90, Franklin 97, Drake a 101, and Garcia a 105..

Fast forwarding to this week the team played Adobe Creek for the Wildcat Invitational, taking sixth with a combined score of 260. Wil Schwartz shot a 79 to lead the team, Gates an 86, Franklin 95 and Garcia 98.

In their final tournament of the week the Cowboys competed in the Longhorn Classic at River Valley Ranch. Schwartz led Meeker shooting an 86, Drake a 92, Sam Hightower a 94 and Garcia a 96.
