
RANGELY | Last Saturday, the Rangely track and field teams showcased their athletic prowess at the Cardinal Invitational in Parachute, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams capturing victories.
The girls’ team demonstrated exceptional skill, topping the leaderboard with an impressive overall score of 127 points, outpacing Soroco, which secured second place with 114.5 points. Key performances included Ashlynn Ducey, who blazed to first place in the 200-meter dash with a swift time of 27.55 seconds, and Miah Wren, who dominated the 300-meter hurdles, finishing first in 49.16 seconds.
In the relays, Rangely’s 4×400-meter team took gold with a time of 4:17.4, while the 4×800-meter team placed second at 13:43.2. Taya Wren led the individual distances by winning the 800-meter run in 2:24.1. Not to be outdone, the 800-meter sprint medley relay team also claimed victory in 1:56.9.
Field events also saw notable successes, with Kaelyn Geer securing second place in the triple jump at 30 feet, 8.25 inches, and Emma Smith placing fifth in the same event at 29 feet, 10.75 inches. The pole vault competition witnessed a tie for third between Kastyn Dembowski and Miah Wren, both clearing 7 feet, 11 inches.
The boys’ team wasn’t far behind, amassing 112 points to win their side of the meet, narrowly edging out Soroco High School, which amassed 106 points. Logan Peterson led a strong sprinting contingent, earning third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.84 seconds. In the middle distances, Dylan Moran and Kellen LeFevre showed their endurance in the 1600-meter run, placing fourth and fifth respectively.
The relay teams showed formidable coordination and speed; the 4×200-meter and 4×400-meter relays both clinched second place, showcasing the depth and talent of the squad. Field events also highlighted Rangely’s strength, with Jordan Irwin winning the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 6 inches, and placing second in the pole vault clearing 12 feet, 5 inches.
As the final regular season meet of the year, Coach Scoggins expressed immense pride in her teams, particularly praising the seniors for their dedication and performance over their high school careers. The athletes look forward to the state championships, where they aim to continue their success and represent Rangely with distinction.
