I’ll kick off this week’s slightly delayed newsletter with corrections and apologies.
The current situation in the newsroom means, in short, increased workload = increased opportunity for error, and I made some whoppers this week.
First, apologies to RHS senior Jaxon Torsell for misspelling your first name! Second, apologies to Callie Scritchfield for getting the date wrong for the Old Time Country Dance at the Buford School not once, but TWICE. (The dance is June 1, not June 15… the fish fry and quilt raffle are June 15.) And DOUBLE apologies for referring to you by your pre-marriage surname (Hendrickson) in my column. Callie got married a year ago in June and muscle memory while typing her name got the better of me. I appreciate her graciousness in bringing the corrections to my attention today!
There are, I’m sure, a gazillion other errors of the usual typo-nature… 🤦🏻 I’m telling myself, in between remembering to breathe, that this is just a season (HURRICANE SEASON?!?) that must be endured for a few more weeks. Transition time is always the worst.
Enough of that… on to the news!

Kudos and thanks to local photographer Michelle Cox for sharing her Aurora Borealis photo!
The White River Alliance will be doing its annual clean-up along the river tomorrow (May 18) beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Lake Avery spillway. Everyone is welcome. Remember the rest of the chorus to that song? “…everybody do your share.”
