RANGELY I The Colorado Northwestern Community College Rodeo Team returned home from the weekend’s rodeos with some solid finishers and a “good start to a new season.”
CNCC Head Rodeo Coach Jed Moore reported the results from CNCC’s first NIRA Collegiate Rodeo competition of the year.
Led by sophomore timed-event specialist Wade Grimshaw, the men’s team amassed 420 points on their way to a third-place finish against 10 other regional schools.
Grimshaw placed first in steer wrestling, and second in team roping. His efforts yielded a career high 280 points.
Other notable Spartan men were Colton Onyett and Dax Koskie placing fourth and fifth, respectably, in the bareback bronc riding.
Team roper Brody Adams placed fourth in team roping along with CNCC graduate Clay Crozier, who now competes for Southern Utah University.
The CNCC women got off to a great start as well with sister duo Teasha and Josie Moody placing fourth and fifth in goat tying.
New team-roping partners Karlee Worthen and Jessalyn Gingrich placed seventh in team roping, just out of the points, but the women’s team placed fifth out of 10 total regional teams.
The Spartans will head to Pocatello, Idaho, this week for a double header at Idaho State University’s Bengal Round-Up.
