It looks and feels as though summer has arrived. 

Excessive heat is killing people off in the East. Here it is just warm enough to be pleasant.

The Lord is good to the colonel these times. It rained over in the basin nearly every day this week.

According to latest reports Routt and Moffat counties will be well covered with oil drilling derricks within the next three months.

A phone line to Trappers Lake is very much needed. In case of accident or sickness among campers and a doctor’s service is needed, people now have to travel a long distance to the nearest phone. 

A large delegation of Odd Fellows started up the river Monday for the trout for the IOOF big Fish Fry celebration.

Moisture starved Colorado was certainly happy to get the wet weather but snow in June???? The old saying, “beggars can’t be choosers” certainly applies here so we’ll be thankful for what we got.

There will be an art show for anyone, and any age on Freeman Fairfield Day, Saturday June 22. The art showing is being sponsored by the Meeker Art Club. Sculptors, handicraft, and needlework are all welcome. The young people of the art club would like to invite anyone who would like to display model cars, boats, planes, etc (2 per person).

The Gianinetti Brothers installed many spruce, pinion, and pasture juniper trees along with several types of shrubs out on the Freeman Fairfield Square, adding to the immense beauty of the area.

Meeker police are calling on extra help to handle the big crowds at the Ricky Van Shelton concert on July 3 at 8 p.m.

Wanda Harris, of Meeker, won $100,000 in the Colorado Lottery High Stakes game. Lottery officials did not announce where she bought the ticket.

School superintendent Karen Benner reports that the school district has hired Steve Balloga as the new Barone Middle School principal.

Lehan-Witt Company with home offices in Colorado Springs and Greeley announced this week that they had begun construction on six new homes in Rangely. 

The Elks Lodge will have a Father Son and Daughter fishing trip on June 15 and 16. 

Miss Nancy Hillis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hillis, was named to the Dean’s List for the winter quarter at Fort Lewis College at Durango.
