Henry Hay was the happiest man in town this morning. The cause of his happiness was a ten-pound girl at his house last evening. Dr. Nrimer acted as master of ceremonies and all are well.

District Attorney Frank Delaney was over from Glenwood forepart of the week attending to official duties.

Latest reports show that oil men are very much in evidence in Piceance and Yellow creek region.

Warm weather of past few days caused considerable rise in the White River. We may have lots of high water after all.

Rio Blanco Cowbelles essay contest winners, Beth Riegel and Joe Gutierrez, were each winners of two steak dinners at the Sleepy Cat Guest Ranch while consolation winners Kathie Hauck and Chris Carroll were each winners of burgers at the A&W and The Cowboy Drive In.

Ward and Carol Lynne Whiteman enjoyed the new sod lawn that was laid down Wednesday at the Fairfield Center. It’s amazing how a little grass will improve the looks of a building. 

Scott Barker of Gerwin and Company and a representative of the United Bank of Denver spoke the Meeker School District Re-1 Board about possible bonding for a new junior high and suggested that the school bond be coordinated with that of the town for water and sanitation improvements.

Friday, June 11 St. James Guilt entertained the Wing residents and guests at the monthly birthday party, Each honoree received a gift, a card, and a vase of carnations. Those celebrating June birthdays were Lulu Sizemore, Marjorie Pederson, Floyd Norvell, and Louise Cummings. 

The Freeman Fairfield Charitable Trust is considering erecting some kind of a permanent tribute to Freeman Fairfield, and is seeking your advice and suggestions. 

Larry Shults is a right jolly fellow when it comes to giving blood. So of course he showed up with a big smile on his face at the blood drive at Pioneers Hospital on June 15. The blood drive was a big success, with an unusually high number of first time donors showing up in the new physical therapy/wellness center at the hospital.

On Tuesday, ground-breaking ceremonies were held on site of the new building to be constructed by the Rangely District Hospital, to be known as the “Rangely Clinic.”

Quick work on the part of the Rangely Police Department resulted in the apprehension of two thieves the night of June 11th and the recovery of about $500 in tools. The burglary took place at the Robert Counts home on East Rangely Avenue when his workshop was raided and all tools and equipment were taken. 

Sue Rose of Tampa, Florida is in Rangely visiting with Letty Jones and other friends.

On June 14m the Rangely Junior College District Board of Trustees held their final regular meeting–at least in its current form. With the signing of the “Long Bill” during the 1999 Colorado Legislative Session, Governor Bill Owens recently approved the appropriation of $4.8 million for CNCC to move into the State System of Community Colleges.

The eighth annual MUD RACES sponsored by the Rangely Racing Association were held at the Rangely Fair Grounds last Saturday.
