Knowledge is power only to the individual who knows he doesn’t know it all.

One of our ranchmen had to do something this year he never had to do before, namely, turn the water into the creek in order to let his alfalfa patch dry preparatory to cutting.

The Breckenridge Journal asks: “Is patriotism in the wane in Colorado?” You wouldn’t think so, Mr. Editor, had you seen the recent celebration of Independence Day at Meeker.

Looks as though Rangely is about to come into its own as an oil producer. The field is going into the hands of men who have money to develop it.

Mr. and Mrs. George Martine and family of Denver are visiting the J G Martine family of Little Beaver. Mr. Martine is very impressed with the White River country and plans to come hunting here in the fall. 

Wilkey Bridges, a former Meeker boy now in Los Angeles, dropped in on his mother and sister this week for a short visit. Wilkey is now holding a good position with the railroad at Los Angeles.

Architect Sam Caudill unveiled preliminary plans for the proposed new junior high school at the Monday night meeting of the Meeker School District Re-1 Board. Caudill estimated that the building alone would cost $1,953,280. 

Mrs. Paul Starbuck spent last week at CSU in Fort Collins attending a Gregg Community College Methods Workshop is Business Education. 

Mrs. Emma Kersey observed her 87th birthday July 13 and received many cards and gifts from a wide circle of friends and family.

If you are one of the little geniuses who’s been knocking down stop signs and other signs along county and state roads recently, be warned your friends can pocket a nice chunk of money by turning you into the cops. And state authorities also plan to make your life miserable. The Rio Blanco County Commissioners on July 12 voted to pay a reward of $500 to anyone who rats on the vandal or vandals who’ve been knocking down signs along RBC 8 and other rights of way into the county.

After more than 10 years of quietly sitting along the White River, three miles east of town, a local landmark is coming back to life. The Green Cabins have a fresh coat of paint and should be open for business the first of August.

Krista Norell, a 10th grade student at Meeker High School, has earned a position on the Wyoming state high school rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Gillette, Wyoming from July 19-25 to compete at the 51st Annual National High School Finals Rodeo Barrel Race competition.

The 47th annual convention of the Colorado Woolgrowers Association will be held in Steamboat Springs July 25, 26, and 27, reports Dean Visintainer, president of the Association. 

Mosquito spraying is set for Saturday morning.

Nancy Sanders and two daughters of Needles, California are visiting with parents, the D. C. Olrees.

Underage smokers will soon see the Rangely Police Department take possession of their cigarettes. 

Fire officials at Dinosaur National Monument are currently monitoring a wildland fire within the boundaries of the Monument. The Red Rock fire, ignited by a lightning strike on July 8, is located on the Red Rock Bench, north of Roundtop fire lookout in the Colorado portion of the park.

Approximately 21 girls from Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Rangely First and Second Wards attended B.O.O.T. camp on the week of June 28 to July 2.
