RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers volleyball team had a successful weekend. Friday’s game saw a match between two unbeaten teams. Caprock Academy came in with a 6-0 record and thanks to some tenacious play, they left 6-1.
The Panthers had to work hard as Caprock boasted a formidable attack with a slew of setter dumps and pushes. The Panthers used their normal attack with all five hitters finding their groove with some exceptional setting to put away the Eagles in four sets.
Saturday would prove to be a difficult challenge as well. Matched against the 3A Miners from North Fork, the Panthers found themselves tied at one set a piece, but down 7-1 in the critical third set. After a meeting of the minds the girls regrouped and started to reel them in. An epic battle ensued that saw a point for point back and forth that resulted in a 29-27 set victory for the home team. The Panthers then dominated the final set pushing their season record to 7-0.
This is another tough week as the Panther’s play Moffat County on Tuesday, travel to Caprock on Friday and then round out the week at home against Vail Mountain on Saturday.
