RANGELY I The 2014 Rangely High School Panthers’ Homecoming was a huge success with a wide variety of activities involving the students.

Windows chosen for decorating were the seniors at Ducey’s Electric, juniors at Heritage Building Center, sophomores at the new County Building and the freshmen at Napa Auto. The seniors won the window competition.
The senior float was decorated at Ducey’s Electric while the freshmen, sophomores and juniors were located at the bus garage. The juniors won this competition.
The spirit week dress up days were a blast. Monday was Neon Day, Tuesday was Sports Day, Wednesday was Backwards Day and Thursday was our Homecoming shirt day purchased by the High School Student Council. For Homecoming week, the juniors were our overall winners.
The annual sophomore chili dinner was held at Thursday night’s volleyball game in the lower commons. After the varsity game, the final game of the night, the town gathered at the bonfire up at the WRBC Recreation Center, where we had our band and students cheer and enjoy the nice fall evening.
Simone Heinle and Antoinette Dorris, co-presidents of the student council, introduced athletics, ran cheers and let the crowd know about the weekend events.
On Friday all the classes spent the morning finishing their class floats for the parade. The lineup started at noon and kicked the parade into gear at 1 p.m. with great participation and wonderful reception by those who watched.
Parade grand marshals were Mark and Connie Skelton, who have been Rangely residents for more than 30 years. They raised their four children: Mark Jr., Greg, Brian, and Brittany, and now have a new generation of Skeltons with their grandchildren, Savannah and Karter.
Mark has worked for the Re-4 School District for 30 years as a teacher, coach and athletic director. Connie is the supervisor for the dental hygiene department on the Colorado Northwestern Community College campus here.
The royalty attendants were: senior Simone Heinle escorted by Heath Peters; Caitlyn Ducey escorted by Ethan Allred; and Desiree Coombs escorted by Marshal Way. Junior attendants were: Echo Campbell escorted by Kaulan Brady. Sophomore attendants were: Antoinette Dorris escorted by Jarrod Fiscus; and freshman attendants were Kierra Powell escorted by Chris Ramirez. Crown bearers this year were Taya Wren and Casen Hinkle.
Our king and queen for this year’s 2014 “Electric Avenue” Homecoming were Simone Heinle and Ethan Allred, who were crowned at Friday night’s Homecoming football game.
