RANGELY | The Rangely cross-country team competed at the regional meet on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, in Delta’s Confluence Park. This meet determined who would advance to the state meet on Nov. 2 in Colorado Springs. The top 15 individual runners and members of the top four teams qualified.
The girls’ team started strong. Taya Wren secured a second-place finish in 19:25 and will represent Rangely as an individual at the state meet. Freshman Faith Prieto followed closely, placing 38th with a time of 24:59. Sophomore Rachel Elder (26:22) and Courtney Casto (26:33) were next, with freshman Addison Thayn rounding out the team with a 28:28 finish. Despite a valiant effort, the girls placed seventh overall and will not compete as a team at the state level.
The boys’ team mirrored the girls’ success with individual qualifiers. Senior James Talbot placed second in 17:13 and will be joined by sophomore Kellen Lefevre (13th, 18:57) at the state meet. Joseph Valdez (29th, 20:44), freshmen Tavan Morgan (21:21) and Titus Friedrich (21:26), and junior Matthew Morgan (25:52) rounded out the team performance. The boys narrowly missed qualifying for the state meet as a team, placing sixth, just six points shy of fourth.
“I am incredibly proud of each runner,” Coach Scoggins said. “They’ve put in tremendous work all season and steadily improved at every meet. The girls are young with immense potential for the future. While the boys will miss James next year, they’ll have strong leadership from this year’s juniors. I’m excited to see James, Kellen, and Taya compete at state.”
The state meet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs.
