Fifth annual Meeker Skijor event canceled due to lack of snow

New Year’s Eve Snowball Dance is still happening!

RBC |  The Meeker Skijor board had to throw in the snow shovel this week and cancel the fifth annual Meeker Skijor races that were scheduled for Jan. 4-5. An unseasonably warm and dry November and December have not produced enough snow to create a track for the race at the fairgrounds.

In a statement, the Skijor board said: “It is with great disappointment that we announce the cancellation of this year’s Meeker Skijor event due to the lack of snow and no measurable snow in the forecast. We have weighed all of our options, even to the length of renting snow guns, generators, and pumps to make snow and have decided with the weather temperatures, It’s just not feasible. We deeply value your enthusiasm and support for this amazing event and share in your disappointment at this unavoidable decision.”

2025 sponsors can receive a refund of sponsorship funds or those funds can be applied toward the 2026 event. Sponsors are asked to contact the board directly to let them know how to proceed.

Although the skijor races are canceled, the organization is still hosting the New Year’s Eve Snowball Dance next Tuesday evening at the Fairgrounds to celebrate and ring in the New Year.
