Community News Roundup ~ Jan. 2, 2025

Welcome to 2025 and happy “second Monday” of the week!

A second Monday after a mid-week holiday is kind of like second breakfast, but not as enjoyable. Second breakfast isn’t limited to hobbits, by the way. It’s a traditional light meal eaten after breakfast and before lunch in some European countries. Pastries, sausage, light desserts, fruit and coffee are typical fare. Now you know.

Next Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, has been deemed a National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, who died last week at the age of 100. Flags are to be flown at half-staff for 30 days (starting Dec. 29, 2024), and the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will suspend regular mail deliveries, retail services and administrative office activity on Jan. 9. USPS will accept and process volume dropped by commercial mailers at mail processing facilities and there will be limited package delivery service on Jan. 9 to ensure the organization does not experience any impacts to its package delivery operations that may negatively affect customers or business partners.

Now on to this week’s news!
