Shelton family opens Rigg’s on New Year’s Eve

MEEKER | The town of Meeker celebrates the opening of a new bar — in an old location with new local owners — this week. Rigg’s hosted its grand opening Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 7 p.m. Owners Bob Shelton and his son T.J. Shelton are very excited to unveil their new establishment. They took the time to share the inspiration behind it.
“We’ve always had a strong connection to this community, and when the opportunity arose to take over a place that means so much to our hometown, it felt like the perfect fit,” T.J. said. “We wanted to create a space where friends, families, and neighbors could come together, unwind, and make lasting memories.” The name “Rigg’s” has unique roots in the Shelton family. The owners explained it honors their family-owned longhorn herd and one of their favorite bulls, named Riggs, while also reflecting their ties to the energy industry.
“We wanted something that reflects both our roots and the hardworking spirit of the community,” Shelton said.
The Sheltons aim to create a welcoming atmosphere at Rigg’s, where both the locals and visitors feel at home.
“Whether you’re stopping by after work for a quick drink, celebrating with friends, or just looking for a fun night out, we want the atmosphere to be warm, casual, and fun,” Shelton stated.
The bar will serve local favorites, which include beers, whiskeys, and mixed drinks. The owners also plan on introducing new specials and cocktails inspired by the family’s favorite spirits. Non-alcoholic options will also be available to ensure that everyone who comes in has something to enjoy.
As Rigg’s grows, the Sheltons plan to expand their menu with additional drink and food options. For now, the bar will operate Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, with plans to extend the hours and introduce themed nights and special events in the future.
“As we settle in, we’re excited to expand our hours and introduce special events, food offerings, and themed nights throughout the week. Please stay tuned by following our social media accounts,” Shelton said.
Rigg’s occupies the former location of Chippers Downtown at 285 6th St. in Meeker and will be run by the Shelton family with support from local friends. The owners are eager to serve Meeker and the surrounding areas, emphasizing their commitment to creating a space for community gatherings.
“We’re most excited about opening back up a gathering place where people can come together, celebrate, and build new memories,” Shelton said. “We love this town and can’t wait to give back by providing a space that everyone can enjoy.”
Rigg’s Bar opens its doors this week, and the Sheltons invite everyone to visit and join in the festivities this weekend.
