MACC meets Monday with heavy agenda

MEEKER I The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Meeker United Methodist Church’s Elbert Hall for a wide variety of business.

MACC president Gary Zellers and Laurie Zellers have been selected by Meeker High School as the 2014-2015 Drama Club directors.
Auditions are being held this week for a play to be presented in late December. The spring musical will be selected later, and casting will begin in early 2015.
Outreach programs for Drama Club students will continue where trips to professional and university performing arts productions will be provided for students in cooperation with the ERBM Recreation and Parks District.
MACC also sponsors a Venturing Crew for high school students and an Explorer Club for middle school students specializing in performing arts.
MACC has endorsed and encouraged the new National Core Arts Standards as provided by the Educational Theater Association (EDTA). These standards may serve as the basis for future academic credit classes in the schools and for college credit offered in the high school curricula.
MACC has initiated a campaign to renovate and restore the Meeker High School auditorium and performing arts center in cooperation with and on behalf of the Meeker School District and Meeker High School. The obsolete technology in the auditorium is largely the original 1955 wiring for stage lighting and the cable winch and batten systems are similarly outmoded and in need of replacement.
Community participation is sought to help advance and sustain this campaign, which will benefit not only students, faculty and staff, but community groups that utilize the auditorium as well.
MACC is joining with the Rio Blanco County Historical Society in supporting the nomination by History Colorado of the town of Meeker’s historic area as a State of Colorado Historic District and as a National Park Service National Historic District. This effort will stimulate heritage and agri-tourism for Rio Blanco County.
Youth, adults and seniors are welcome and invited to participate and help plan exciting performing and fine arts activities such as dinner theaters, performing arts outreach seminars, support of school and ERBM Recreation and Parks District drama programs, community events, program planning and much more.
If you want to see these great opportunities in your home town, please get involved, support and participate in this worthwhile effort.
Possible grant funding from philanthropic foundations will be discussed along with performing and fine arts venue discussions.
