RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers showcased their competitive spirit and depth at the 2025 Cardinal Invitational, finishing third overall in the girls’ team standings and second in the boys’ competition. With standout performances across the board, the Panthers have built strong momentum heading into the State Track and Field Championships this coming weekend in Denver.
Girls’ Highlights:
Senior Ashlynn Ducey continued her remarkable season, taking second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.65 seconds. She also helped lead the Panthers’ 4×100-meter relay team to a third-place finish and anchored the 4×400-meter relay squad that crossed the line in a solid second place at 4:14.90.
In the mid-distance events, sophomore Taya Wren put together a gutsy race to finish second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.92, narrowly missing out on first by fractions of a second. Freshman Haiden Garcia and Addison Thayn battled hard in the 800, with Garcia finishing in the top ten.
The Panthers also made their mark in the field events. Aubrianna Tapia took fourth in the discus with a throw of 88 feet, 7.5 inches and delivered a podium-worthy third-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 34 feet, 2 inches. Taylor Fouch impressed as a freshman, placing fourth in shot put as well.
Senior Miah Wren earned a strong third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles and cleared 9 feet, 2 inches in the pole vault for third place, highlighting her versatility heading into her final state appearance.
Boys’ Highlights:
On the boys’ side, senior James Talbot turned in one of the most exciting performances of the day, winning the 1600-meter run with an outstanding time of 4:32.91. He also contributed to the Panthers’ 4×400-meter relay team, which secured a competitive fourth-place finish.
In the sprints, senior Robert Murray placed sixth in the 100-meter dash, while Joseph Valdez and James Talbot pushed the pace in the 400 meters, finishing ninth and eleventh, respectively.
The Panthers excelled in field events as well, with senior Jordan Irwin capturing third place in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 9 inches, and tying for first in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 2 inches. Fellow Panther Kacey Allred added to the team’s points by placing sixth in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the pole vault.
The boys’ 4×200-meter relay team delivered one of the meet’s most exciting finishes, sprinting to second place with a time of 1:35.15, narrowly trailing Coal Ridge.
“We’re incredibly proud of how our athletes performed this weekend,” said Head Coach Beth Scoggins. “They’ve put in the hard work all season, and this meet really showed their grit and determination. We’re excited to see what they can do on the big stage in Denver. The energy is high, and I believe we’ll turn some heads at state.”
The Panthers will send a remarkable 17 athletes to the state championships, a testament to the program’s growth and competitive edge. With this level of talent and momentum, the Panthers are primed for a memorable showing as they close out the 2025 season.
