Community News Roundup ~ June 19, 2025

Newsletter coming to you a wee bit early!

Your print subscriptions will likely be late this week because Thursday is a Federal holiday — no mail service, banks closed, etc. If you have a hard time keeping track of the holidays we’ve had forever (like me!), new ones popping up on the calendar can throw you off your stride!

For those who are unfamiliar with the origins of this holiday, Juneteenth dates back to 1865. On June 19, 1865, 250,000 slaves in the state of Texas — which became the last bastion for slavery during the final days of the Civil War — were declared free by the U.S. Army. Texas declared June 19 a state holiday in 1979.
