Obituary – Steven Gaylord Harman

April 13, 1949 ~ Sept. 30, 2025

Steven Gaylord Harman passed away Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at the age of 76.

He was born April 13, 1949, the second of four children to Charles and Rachel Harman. The family lived on a farm in Fleming, Colorado, with grandparents and cousins. A smart and mischievous boy, Steve often found himself in adventures with his brothers, sister and friends.

In high school, he participated in basketball, track and field, and football. Following graduation, he attended what is now the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and became a proud lifetime member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Steve’s career as a business teacher and coach began at North Park High School in Walden, Colorado, where he made many lifelong friends. He met his future wife, Ann Williams, during an FBLA conference where they were both supervising students.

After starting their family, Steve and Ann moved to Meeker, Colorado, where they raised their three daughters and Steve continued his teaching and coaching career. After retiring from teaching, he worked for an oil and gas company in the Piceance Creek Basin, on a tree farm, in auto parts stores, and building houses. He also continued officiating basketball and track.

After Ann’s passing in 2007, Steve eventually moved to Arizona, where he found a home and community at Sunflower RV Resort in Surprise.

Steve is remembered for his jokes, his strong sense of right and wrong, pride in his family, and his many passions and competitive pursuits, including fishing, woodworking, cribbage, Texas Hold ’em and horseshoes. Those closest to him also know that he was quietly generous. That generosity continues in death, as Steve gave the gift of tissue donation to improve the lives of others.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dave Harman; father, Charles Harman; mother, Rachel Boardman; stepfather, Earle Boardman; and wife, Ann. He is survived by his brother, Mike (Kelly) Harman of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; sister, Susan (Bill) Hoover of Muskogee, Oklahoma; daughters, Devon (Mike) Whalen of Chandler, Arizona, Michelle Harman of Boise, Idaho, and Danyel (Harry) Stafford of McMurray, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at Sunflower RV Resort in Surprise, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Steve’s honor to your local food bank.
