MEEKER I The Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District will continue its Winter Entertainment Series on Friday and Saturday with events Friday on the downtown Meeker courthouse lawn and on Saturday with its Winter Blast at Paintbrush Park, Sanderson Hills Park and Phillip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park. All events are free.
On Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. on the Rio Blanco County Courthouse lawn, the fun will be held whether or not there is snow.
From 3 to 4 p.m. will be family-friendly games such as a Frozen Scavenger Hunt, Frosty Toss, Frozen Bubbles and Pee Wee Snow Bowling. From 4 to 5 p.m. there will be a snow sculpture contest for persons of all ages.
From 4 to 5:30 p.m. will be games for after school: Floating Donuts, Human Bowling and snowshoe and penguin races. At 5:30 p.m., the live entertainment will begin.
On Saturday, events begin at 11 a.m. with the Cardboard Derby, and all participants will meet with their homemade sleds at the top of Paintbrush Park. The Cardboard Derby will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Paintbrush Park.
From noon to 1 p.m., there will be a free lunch at Paintbrush Park Pavilion and the Cardboard Derby winners will be announced. Following lunch, from 1 to 3 p.m., there will be snowshoe and cross-country treks beginning at Phillip and Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park, and snow dying and snowman building at Sanderson Hill Park.
