Meeker’s Community Service Officer Melissa Fellows received a call Monday from a concerned resident on Water Street about a cat being stuck in a tree since Saturday, May 9. All of the neighbors spent the last couple of days trying unsuccessfully to coax the cat down. Fellows called Chase Rule, the owner of Highrise Tree Service, and asked if he could possibly rescue the cat. Rule said he was working out of town but would help when he returned. Unbeknownst to Fellows, Rule is a volunteer firefighter with Meeker Fire and Rescue. He suggested that the fire department use their new ladder truck to rescue the cat. The fire department arrived, used the new truck and rescued the cat. Once on the ground, the cat was returned to its relieved and grateful owner. A happy ending for all and another reason to say “thank you” to our local volunteer fire department.
