Crafternoon rescheduled to May 28

MEEKER | Meeker Public Library’s May Crafternoon has been rescheduled to May 28 from 3-5 p.m. The featured project is “cloud dough” slime, limited to 11 participants; reservations are required by calling 970-878-5911 or stopping by the library. Additional crafts will also be available.

Pig roast and country dance May 30

MEEKER | The White River Community Association’s third annual Country Dance fundraiser is May 30 at the Buford Schoolhouse. A pig roast for the first 100 guests begins at 6 p.m., followed by live music and dancing with Cimarron at 8 p.m. Cost is $25 for dinner and dance or $15 for dance only. BYOB.

MAMBA meeting set June 1

MEEKER |  MAMBA will meet Monday, June 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Meeker Town Hall. Agenda items include trail work planning, grants, National Public Lands Day and volunteer needs. Remote participation is available; volunteers are also sought for the ERBM Youth Triathlon. Contact Tawnee at [email protected].

Summer Reading Challenge starts June 1

MEEKER |  The Summer Reading Challenge at the Meeker Public Library starts June 1!  Sign-ups start Tuesday, May 26. Win cool prizes — and ice cream — for reading!

Beef Day planned at Clark’s Market

MEEKER | Rio Blanco CattleWomen will host Beef Day at Clark’s Market on June 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community members can sample beef meatballs, pick up recipes and nutrition information, and enter to win one of two 10-pound bundles of locally raised ground beef. Winners will be drawn at 2 p.m.; attendance is not required to win.

Area Agency on Aging seeking input

RBC | The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Colorado is seeking public input for its four-year plan. Meetings are June 3 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Fairfield Center Chuckwagon in Meeker and June 8 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Radino Senior Center in Rangely.

Grazing workshop planned June 6

MEEKER | A drought and wildfire grazing workshop, “In the Field with Jim Gerrish,” is planned June 6 at the 4M Ranch from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Cost is $35, including meals. Space is limited; call 970-878-9838 to register. (See ad on P2 of this edition.)

Butterfly Experience series in June

MEEKER | Meeker Public Library will host a “Butterfly Experience” series June 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Participants will watch caterpillars transform into butterflies. Open to all ages; call 970-878-5911 to register.

CNA Training Program Begins June 9

MEEKER | Pioneers Medical Center is sponsoring a free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program in Meeker from June 9 through July 9, 2026. The state-approved program includes classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, and clinical experience with local healthcare professionals. The program is open to individuals ages 16 and older, and enrollment is limited to 10 participants. For more information or to apply, contact [email protected].

Free financial literacy classes offered 

MEEKER | United Way of the Yampa Valley will offer a free three-class financial literacy series covering budgeting, saving, debt management and credit building on June 10, June 24 and July 8 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Blue Spruce Room, 345 Market St. Dinner and childcare will be provided. MEEKER | Meeker Public Library is collecting recipes for a community cookbook. Submit recipes at the library or email [email protected] with your name and phone number.

Community Mitigation Project June 30 

MEEKER | Project partners involved in the Resident Mitigation & Resilience Project in eastern Rio Blanco County will host a community meeting on Friday, June 30 at 6 p.m. at the Buford Schoolhouse. Residents in the Ute, Papoose, Marvine, Buford and Crooks Park areas are encouraged to attend and learn about local wildfire mitigation efforts and forest health initiatives. Topics will include funded defensible space programs, chipping days, site assessments, and community engagement opportunities supported through the Community Wildfire Defense Grant. Local Working Group Meeting July 2

MEEKER | The White River Conservation District will host a Local Working Group Meeting for NRCS at the Meeker Fire Protection District on July 2 at 6 p.m. Local producers and community members are encouraged to attend and share input on natural resource concerns including rangeland health, water quality, drought resiliency, weed control, forest health, wildlife, irrigation, livestock management, and energy development. Fire Preparedness Day at Meekerpalooza 

MEEKER | The Conservation Districts and Forest Health Partners invite the community to a free Fire Preparedness Bootcamp for Landowners on Friday, July 17, from 5-7 p.m. on the Rio Blanco County Courthouse lawn during Meekerpalooza. Topics include defensible space, home hardening, chainsaw and fire extinguisher safety, slash management and more. Smokey Bear and a fire truck will also be on site. The event is held with Meekerpalooza and the White River Electric Member Appreciation Event. Call 970-878-9838 for information.
