RANGELY — On Saturday, Aug. 16, the Streaker passengers, driven by Sharon, went to Leadville to ride the Colorado and Southern train. Sharon started picking up passengers at 4:10 a.m., leaving Meeker at 5 a.m.
The first stop was in Glenwood Springs where we ate breakfast. It was raining very hard.
We stopped near Minturn waiting for the bus from Rangely. Both buses reached the depot in Leadville to catch the train at 10 a.m.
The train had closed cars and several open cars. Warm coats were needed as there was snow on the mountains and it was cold.
A stop was made for some people who wanted to look for wild flowers. Then it was on to the top where there was snow on the ground. After listening to the conductor telling the history of the train, we headed back down.
The flower and hiking people were ready to go and we went back to Leadville. The round trip took three hours.
Everyone was hungry, and we found a place to eat and were then on our way again. Twin Lakes was very pretty and that was on the road to Independence Pass.
We did not stop in Aspen or Carbondale but did stop for ice cream in Glenwood Springs.
Meeker had 11 people on the Streaker and Rangely had 13. Then on to Meeker making it back about 6 p.m. Despite the storm and cold everyone had a good time and is ready to go again.
