Most of the first cutting of hay is over and it can rain now.
In response to a call issued by Mayor Walbridge, a goodly number of property owners and taxpayers assembled at the courthouse last Monday evening. Mayor Walbridge called the meeting to order and after stating the object, A.C. Moulton was elected as chairman, and H. A. Wildhack secretary.

Closing a summer’s vacation period spent in study and hard work, instead of play, in order that the children whom they teach might have the benefit of better educational advantages, Mrs. Margret Horn, daughter of Mrs. E. J. Taylor, and Miss Virginia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. C. Shepard has reached another step in the goal of their ambition and received their life certificate in teaching on Thursday, of this week at Colorado State Teachers College, at Greeley, Colorado.
Definite information was received this week that Burt Fairchild, famous outlaw who recently escaped from the jail, is abroad within the county. He stopped Gardenshire on Piceance last week and told him about his getaway. The county people are getting rid of the manner in which Sheriff Kendal is handling the case and all the take he puts up about getting Fairchild.

What proved to be one of the shortest terms of District Court convened in Meeker last Monday morning. The list of jurors had been subpoenaed by the Sheriff for Tuesday morning and when they appeared at that time they were dismissed by the Judge. Judge Shumate was as usual on the bench, District Attorney Delany on had to defend the People and Court Stenographer Shultz to push the short hand pencil.
What has been a hobby of one of Rio Blanco county’s oldest Pioneers, now bids fair to become a reality within a few days. For years Thomas Baker has talked and urged the erection of a monument to N. C. Meeker, with other Agency employees, massacred early in the fall of 1879 near the present site of the town which now bears his name.

Rangely’s Ed Johnson baseball team plays the winner of the Leadville-Gunnison game in the State Tournament today, Thursday at 5 p.m. at Grand Junction. Undefeated to date and coached by Jack Elder, Rangely has ten wins going into today’s game.
The classes of 1955 and 1956 are holding a reunion on July 24 and 25 and they would like to invite other alumni to the Saturday night dance starting at 9 p.m. at the Chevron Rec Hall.

Colorado’s license plates used to give you a clue in which county the vehicle was licensed. One sometimes could even identify the owner of the car by the number that followed the “49” which was the designation for Rio Blanco County.
The Rangely police department needs your help in finding the person or persons responsible for breaking into change machines at the car wash at 243 Main Street. About $200 in quarters were taken and several hundred dollars worth of damage was done to the machine.
