RANGELY I The Colorado Northwestern Community College men’s baseball team is off to a good start this year.
After traveling to Phoenix and Southern Nevada to begin their pre-season play, the Spartans were 4-7 entering conference.
The spring was a showcase for many players on the Spartan roster, especially for shortstop Greg Reynolds, who swung the bat well in Arizona and hit above .500 in Las Vegas, going seven for 13 with five RB’s and a solo home run.
The Spartans’ young pitching staff is holding their own and is expected to finish better than they started.
Over this past weekend, Spartans had their home opener in fine fashion against visiting College of Southern Nevada, the No. 2 ranked team in the nation.
Of the four game held, the Spartans won two, splitting the series and improving their record to 6-9.
The Spartans were led by a number of players offensively, including Reynolds, Zach Hoffman and Larenz Stansfield.
The Spartan pitching staff was led by Trevar Bradley and Chris Ramirez, who both got the wins, as well as Bailey Hoffmiester, who earned the save in game two.
This week the Spartans baseball team travels to College of Southern Idaho to begin a four-game set.
